The Ministry of Public Works in collaboration with residents of the Samuel K. Doe Community has began a clean-up exercise on the Bushrod Isand in Monrovia.
According to the Project Manager of the Ministry of Public Works Youth Volunteer, Mr. Aaron Woods, the project is being funded by the Liberian government geared towards cleaning the drainages in the community.
He told reporters last friday that 25 youth volunteers have been recruited by residents of the community to undertake the project.
Mr. Woods flanked by the youth volunteers explained that the project would last for one month.
The Ministry of Public Works official further narrated that the project was initiated following several appeals by the people in the area,
He said each volunteer would be compensated with US$3.00 per day as government own way of empowering them.
Mr. Woods then assured that plan is underway to embark similar projects in other areas during the dry season but was quick to point out that only comunities that apply to the ministry would be considered.
He however did not disclosed the cost of the exercise.
